BREAKING THE RULES ABOUT WHISKY

Nomad is one of the most innovative whiskies worldwide, turning the traditional on its head, redefining what Whisky can be and how it tastes. Many great whiskies spend their final maturation time in sherry casks that were sent from Jerez to Scotland. Nomad is the first whisky in the world that, after some years of aging in Scotland, completes its maturation in González Byass’ cathedral-like winery in Jerez de la Frontera – hence breaking the unwritten rules about whisky.

 

ONE-OF-A-KIND AGEING PROCESS

After blending, the whisky spends around 3 more years in Scotland, maturing in former sherry butts, before being transferred to Jerez to be aged in the San Fernando cellars of González Byass for a minimum of 12 months in casks that were previously used to age old Pedro Ximenez sherries.

 

OUTLAND WHISKY: FINISHED IN SHERRY CASKS IN JEREZ

The unusual ambience of our century-old winery in Jerez, subject to a unique micro- climate with changing temperatures, humidity and maritime influences, and imbued with the native yeasts that are so unique to our cellars, give Nomad its particular and incomparable personality. Following rigorous experiments with many different sherry casks (that were used to age Fino, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherries) our Master Blenders found that the best finish for this special Whisky came from the Pedro Ximénez butts. Antonio Flores, MasterBlender of González Byass, said “Seeing the way in which the whiskies chosen by Richard interacted with the different Sherry barrels was fascinating. When we tasted the Whisky aged in Pedro Ximénez casks we knew it was the best result. Rich and rounded, the sweetness of the wood and the wonderful Pedro Ximénez character which infuses the Whisky make this a most exceptional spirit.”

 

TASTING NOTE

Bright, amber colored whisky. It has a unique aroma with malty notes, reminiscent of oak and sherry due to its ageing in American oak barrels. Smooth and elegant on the palate, with prominent flavors of raisins, honey and a distinctive bouquet as a result of the finishing of the whisky in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. A long finish, pleasant with hints of vanilla and dried fruits. A very elegant whisky with a long aftertaste.
